Remix is an Instagram Reels feature that lets you record your own video right next to an existing Reel, similar to TikTok’s Duet. It is a simple way to react to, collaborate with, or build on other creators’ content, and a smart way to put your videos in front of new audiences. Here is how it works and how to use it well.
What is the Reels Remix feature?
Remix lets you film a reactionary Reel that plays side by side with the original. You can remix any Reel as long as the original creator has left Remix access enabled. The result is a split-screen video, with the original on one side and your response on the other, published as a new Reel on your profile.
How to remix a Reel
Open the Reel you want to remix, tap the three-dot menu, and choose Remix this Reel. Instagram opens the camera with the original playing alongside your recording space. Record your response, adjust the layout and audio balance, add text, stickers or effects, then share it as you would any other Reel. To control whether others can remix your content, open your own Reel settings and toggle Remix on or off.
How creators and brands can use Remix
Remix is built for collaboration and reach. React to a trend, answer a question, duet with another creator, demonstrate a product alongside a customer’s video, or add your expert take to a popular clip. Because your Remix is attached to a Reel people are already watching, it is an easy way to ride existing momentum and introduce your brand to a new audience.
Tips for better Remixes
Choose Reels that are relevant to your niche so the crossover audience is the right one. Make your half add genuine value, whether that is a reaction, a tip or a punchline, rather than just filler. Keep it short and energetic, and leave your own Remix setting switched on so other creators can build on your content and extend your reach further.
